Romney fund-raising jumps after V.P. roll out

12 hours ago CNN Political Unit (CNN) - Following the roll out of his vice presidential pick, Mitt Romney's fundraising numbers got a Republican enthusiasm-fueled boost.

On Sunday, Andrea Saul, Romney's campaign press secretary, wrote on Twitter that fund-raising had spiked for the candidate after revealing Paul Ryan as his running mate.

That was a jump from midday Saturday, when Saul wrote that Romney had brought in just over $1 million since Ryan's name went public.

Later Saturday afternoon, Saul tweeted again updating the Romney campaign fundraising numbers to just over $2 million.

In July, Romney's campaign and the Republican National Committee raised $101.3 million – an average of $3.4 million per day, raised mostly through high-dollar fund-raisers.

Together, the RNC and Romney's campaign ended July with $185.9 million cash on hand. The Republican effort had $160 million in the campaign war chest at the end of June. Both months' numbers include money raised by Romney's campaign, the Republican National Committee, and several state parties in a joint committee known as Romney Victory.

Compare the Romney fund-raising numbers to those of Obama and the Democratic National Committee's July haul of $75 million and $71 million in June. Last month marked the third consecutive month the president was outraised by Romney.

Romney's campaign wasn't the only one fund-raising off the Ryan announcement, however. Following Romney's vice presidential announcement, senior adviser David Axelrod emailed supporters touting a new web video attacking the newly formed pair and asking folks to 'chip in.'

Capitalizing on the announcement in an email to supporters on Sunday, Ryan asked recipients to enter a contest for a chance to meet the new Republican team. The email directs recipients to the Romney campaign website, which asks for a small donation, $3, as an entry fee for a chance to win.

Ryan wrote in the email, "I'm looking forward to what lies ahead - especially meeting supporters like you. One lucky supporter still can win the chance to meet Mitt and me before things really heat up with the Convention."

Romney's fund-raising numbers are comparable to the Republican ticket's in 2008. McCain raised about $4 million online in the 24 hours after the Palin announcement and $10 million over the next three days.
